"Finland´s answer to Isis.
Another band to add to the list of ambitious prog-noise merchants currently crawling along in the footsteps of Isis and Neurosis, these young Finns have conjured something unique and often spellbinding from that nebulous genre´s key ingredients. Grimier and more urban sounding than their cinematically-inclined peers, Callisto pile on the oppressive, melancholic atmospheres and erect a series of impenetrable walls of immense sounding distortion, resulting in swirling epics like ´Blackhole´and the crippling, mournful denouement of ´The Great Divorce´. At times this verges on the FX-dependent psychedelia fo Mogwai and Mono as the foursome exhibit an unexpected lightness of touch.
A beatifully brutal debut."

"Hotly tipped new Earache signing. Try this if you fancy some low-hum, detuned ambient music from a Swedish (correction: Finnish) band who clearly have one ear firmly glued to the doom scene, and the other locked onto a more melodic groove. ´True Nature Calls´ is a fascinating album, in that it never allows the listener to settle, offering soundscapes that seem refined and genteel, yet in reality have a devious, jagged psychosis. the songs are more like excursions into a world inhabited by Sleep, Earth, Fantomas and Melvins, with a structure based on monotony raised to the level of an art form. They take you through the sewers of Callisto´s clearly derailed mental state. It´s hard to pick out individual tracks, but ´Blackhole´ is claustrophobic, ´Storm´ is suffocating and ´Caverns Of Khafka´ is just plain surreal. This is a cutting album for those who like their music warped at the edges and shop-soiled by dysfunction. It´s never formulaic."

"Vasta parivuotias turkulaiskvartetti yllättää myrskyvaroituksena toimineen Ordeal of the Century -ep:nkin jälkeen järkälemäisen hienolla teoksella. True Nature Unfolds vetääkin niin aseettomaksi, että oikeastaan mitään toivomisen varaa ei jää. Calliston ulosannissa on sielukasta tunnetta kiedottuna painostavaan kauneuteen, unohtamatta kajastavan hyvyyden puhkomaa epätoivoista surumielisyyttä. Bändi onnistuu, kenties taustalla vaikuttavien arvojen ansiosta, kuulostamaan äärimmäisen vakuuttavalta ja rehelliseltä. Callisto soi jossakin metalcoren ja postrockin välimaastossa. Vaikka yhteneväisyyksiä Cult of Lunaan ja Isis-yhtyeeseen onkin kuultavissa, linkittyy Callisto vahvasti myös metalliin käärittyyn Mogwain pitkälinjaisuuteen ja Magyar Possen yltiömelankolisiin melodiakulkuihin. Tanakka tinkimättömyys ja raastavat lauluosuudet ovat olennaisessa osassa, mutta niitä tasapainottaa mainiosti verkkainen tempo, enkelimäinen naislaulu ja jopa saksofoni. Nasum-heppu Mieszko Talarczykin loihtimat soundit onnistuvat vielä entisestään tehostamaan levyn musertavaa tunnelmaa. Ture Nature Unfolds on nimenomaan teoskokonaisuus. Yhteen kiedotut, jopa kymmenminuuttisiksi venyvät biisit välittävät pakahduttavaa tunnelmaa, joka ei kuitenkaan ole läpeensä lohduton. Tämä on raskasta musiikkia."
